Safety Training and Resources (STAR) Initiative:
Helping Communities Prepare and Protect Against Crisis
The towns and communities across America have no greater resource than their local citizens - everyday people with the heart and spirit of pioneers who work hard and play hard, support their families and friends, and unite in times of need.
When an emergency or crisis strikes any community, citizens may have to swiftly and efficiently mobilize local resources. Utilizing the STAR toolkit and safety training, individual citizens who are willing to help breathe life back into to a community hurt by crisis.

The Community Safety Institute (CSI) and the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) have partnered with the Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) to produce the Safety Training and Resources (STAR) Initiative.
The STAR Initiative is an innovative citizen-led program designed to identify community-based resources that may be mobilized by emergency responders or citizens in times of crisis.
With training provided by local law enforcement and representatives from various Regional Community Policing Institutes (RCPI's), community members will be empowered to collect, collate, and disseminate important community safety and resource information through various means.
