The Iowa River near the Center Street Bridge, Mars - This update is in reference to the disappearance and apparent drowning of individual in the Iowa River north of the Center Street Dam in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 the Marshall County Communications Center received a call from an individual who advised there was a body floating in the Iowa River near the Center Street Bridge.
The Communications Center immediately dispatched the Marshall County Sheriff's Office along with the Marshalltown Police and Fire Departments. Officers and Deputies traveled long the south bank of the river to an area down stream approximately one-quarter mile from the Center Street Bridge.
There, they met with a small group of citizens were had discovered the body of an Asian male in the river. The Marshalltown Fire Department Rescue squad entered the river and extricated the body from where it was located.
The body was turned over to Marshall County Deputy Medical Examiner, Mark Bethel. Deputy Examiner Bethel met with family members who positively identified the individual as; Dawt Cung Nung, Age 27 of Marshalltown. (Mr. Nung disappeared on June 5th in the Iowa River just up-stream from the Center Street Bridge.) Deputy Examiner Bethel stated that the body of Mr. Nung would be transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office for further examination in determining the exact cause of death.
