Immigration Detainee Inadvertently Released

Marshall County Iowa - On December 7th, 2016 Marshall County jail staff received authorization to release Immigration Detainee Edin Quinteros, Guatemala, who had posted security bond for his release pending court proceedings. Quinteros was processed and released from the Marshall County Jail.

Moments after the detainee was release, jail staff discovered the incorrect detainee had been released. Released detainee was identified as Jose Quintana-Hernandez, Mexico. Quintana was quickly taken back into custody and Quinteros released.

At no time was the community in danger. The Marshall County Jail contracts housing for Immigration & Customs Enforcement civil detainees.

An internal affairs investigation is being conducted and all aspects of this incident will be reviewed.
