Marshall County Deputies Respond to Grain Bin Collapse

March 15, 2024 at 8:03 am

At approximately 5:27 AM Marshall County Communication Center received a report of a grain elevator explosion at the Mid-Iowa Cooperative, 502 Green Mountain Rd., Green Mountain Iowa.

When deputies arrived, it was discovered a soybean grain bin had collapsed that contained approximately 300,000 bushels of soybeans.  Due to the proximity of the grain bin and large volume of soybeans displaced, the force pushed a nearby office building partially off the foundation.  There were no employees on the property during the collapse.  Utility workers remain on scene to repair gas, water, and electric services to the business.  Please avoid this area as workers begin the clean-up process.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Tama and Grundy County Sheriff’s Offices, Green Mountain and Legrand Fire Departments and First Responders, Unity Point Heath-Marshalltown Ambulance, Alliant Energy and Iowa Rural Water Association.
