July 4, 2011
Rural Marshall County in the 3100 mile of East Mai - At approximately 1:17 am on July 4, 2011, Deputies were dispatched to the 3100 mile of East Main Street Rd. The caller, a nearby resident, reported hearing tires squealing and thought that a vehicle lost control on the curve.
Minutes after the call was sent out, Deputies arrived at the scene of a one-vehicle rollover near the intersection of East Main Street Road and Three Bridges Road. There, they discovered a late eighties GMC pickup truck on it's side in the north ditch. Further searching located the victim, Andrew Edward Suchanek (age 45 of rural Tama County), lying in the ditch. It was apparent that Mr. Suchanek had been ejected from the pickup, after it entered the ditch, while it rolled.
Mr. Suchanek had received multiple severe injuries from the ejection but was conscious when he was found. Deputies administered first aid until the arrival of the Green Mountain First Responders. Also on scene were MAPS, the Marshalltown Fire and Rescue along with the Green Mtn Fire Department. Suchanek was transported by ambulance to the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center with critical injuries where he later died. Dr. David Bethel, Marshall County Medical Examiner, will continue the investigation to determine the exact cause of death.
The initial accident investigation showed that the vehicle had been traveling eastbound on Main St Rd, when the driver lost control in a curve. It appears that speed was a factor, when the vehicle swerved across the roadway, entering the north ditch. Once in the ditch, the pickup rolled multiple times, ejecting the unseat-belted driver, before it came to rest on its side.
