Sheriff Ted G. Kamatchus announced today that SAFE 4 SPRING is almost here and would like to take an opportunity to talk about the program a little more in detail.
SAFE 4 SPRING is scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 17 and continue through Saturday, April 24. Numerous activities related to traffic safety are going to be conducted during this week. This program will focus on both education and enforcement and is directed at making people more safety conscience regarding traffic safety.
On April 17 through April 24, deputies from the Sheriff's Office will be visiting the area schools and having open forum discussions with students. On April 24, a child safety seat checkpoint will be conducted at Big K-Mart Ford from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. People who transport children under the age of 11, using safety seats are encouraged to attend and make sure they are using the safety seats properly and effectively. April 22 and April 23 will be designated to provide for positive reinforcement to drivers using their seatbelts. On April 17 and April 23, deputies from the Sheriff's Office will conduct a bicycle rodeo. Along with these activities, deputies and other local law enforcement will be stepping up enforcement regarding seatbelt usage, careless driving, speed, and other traffic law violations. Citizens in the community can expect to see an officer just around the corner.
While, the Marshall County Sheriff's Office is taking extensive efforts to educate our youth we can not do it alone. Sheriff Kamatchus encourages parents to take just a few minutes to talk to their children about traffic safety issues.
Sheriff Kamatchus also extended his appreciation to the businesses and organizations that have donated their time and resources to making SAFE 4 SPRING a success. These businesses include: the Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau, Marshalltown Police Department, Alley's Silkscreen, Hogeland Body Shop, A&J Body Shop, McAtee Tire, Racom, In Stitches, West Marshall Community Schools, and the East Marshall Community Schools.
