Marshall County Knapp Avenue - At about 750am this date, June 9, 2010, Marshall County Deputies and medical emergency personnel were dispatched to the railroad crossing on Knapp Ave., regarding a train/car collision. This would be the crossing at the south end of Lamoille, an unincorporated community in Marshall County.
The driver and only occupant of the car, was transported to Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center by paramedics.
Investigation so far has shown that the Union-Pacific train was eastbound and the car had been traveling southbound through Lamoille, and came to a stop on the tracks. The train engine hit the rear section of the car on the passenger side. The crossing arms and lights at this crossing are believed to have been functioning properly. The train came to a stop and representatives of the U-P Railroad also responded to the scene.
The driver of the car has been identified as Cindy Lou Taylor, age 55, of Nevada, IA.
Taylor is believed to have sustained only minor injuries.
The accident is yet under investigation by the Marshall County Sheriff's Office and Union-Pacific Railroad. No other information is available at this time.
