On May 20, 2023 at 11:16AM Marshall County Deputies and EMS were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash with injuries between a car and a farm tractor in the 1800 mile of Marsh Avenue (Hwy 330) South of Albion. Witnesses reported the tractor had been struck and overturned in the ditch. MCSO Deputies arrived on scene and located a tractor upside down in a ditch with rear-end damage and one vehicle with heavy front-end damage still in the roadway. The driver of the tractor, Clarence Borton, 86, of Albion was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, Morgan Weiglet, 22, of Albion was transported by Unity Point EMS with non life-threatening injuries. The Sheriff's Office requested the assistance of the Iowa State Patrol with the crash investgation. The roadway was closed and traffic re-routed for several hours while a technical investigation was conducted. The case remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. Assisting at the scene was Albion Fire and EMS, Liscomb EMS, Unity Point Ambulance, and the Marshall County Medical Examiner's Office.
