2900 mile of East Main Street Road - Motor Vehicle Fatality Accident in flood waters east of Marshalltown, Iowa
At Appx 1:20 hrs on 06/01/2008 the Marshall County 911 Communications Center received a call from a driver who could see tail-lights in the ditch north of the roadway in the 2900 mile of East Main Street Road. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a vehicle nearly completely submerged in flood waters in a field, on the north side of the road.
Officers from the Marshalltown Police Department and Marshalltown Fire Department entered the water and made entry into the submerged vehicle, where they found one unresponsive female occupant.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Marshall County Sheriff's Office. It appears that the east-bound vehicle drifted off onto the south shoulder of the roadway, then crossed over to the north side where it entered the ditch just west of the Iowa River Bridge on East Main Street Road.
The occupant was pronounced dead on-scene by the Marshall County Medical Examiner, Dr David Bethel. The exact cause of death is undetermined at this time, pending an autopsy. The name of the deceased is being withheld until notification of family.
The Marshall County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Marshalltown Police Department, Marshalltown Fire Department, Green Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, MMSC Ambulance and Hogeland's Towing. Investigation is continues.
