Marshall County Deputies respond to Fatal Accident in Rural Marshall County

At approximately 9:10 AM on 05/17/2022, Deputies were dispatch to 3367 Fairman Avenue, Baxter, Iowa for a report of a child that had been struck by a pickup backing out of a garage.  When deputies arrived on scene an unresponsive toddler was located near the vehicle.  First responders and deputies began administering CPR.  

The toddler, age 2, was later pronounced deceased on scene as a result of injuries sustained from the accident.  

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Iowa State Patrol, Unity Point Heath-Marshalltown Ambulance, Life Flight, Marshall County Medical Examiner’s Office, Melbourne, Rhodes, Gilman, and Baxter Fire Departments and First Responders.

The photo above was taken at a crash scene on Highway 30 where a distracted driver struck the back of a wagon transporting corn from the field. Luckily, the driver of the tractor and the pickup truck were both uninjured.
